Strategy
We develop high-impact relief and rehabilitation programs for people displaced by conflict, war and natural disaster.
Together with our volunteers and local staff, we:
- Provide health care to disaster-affected populations and implement emergency preparedness programs.
- Build local partner and health personnel capacity through community-based interventions.
- Ship essential medicines and supplies to hospitals and clinics.
- Provide psychosocial training and care to traumatized people.
Requirements
Teams are drawn from our response-ready pool of volunteers who have previously completed the screening and interview process.
Certification/licensure requirements (for citizens of the U.S./Canada; requirements vary for applicants from other countries):
- Doctors (MD, DO)
- Physician Assistants (PA-C)
- Nurse Practitioners (ANP, FNP, PNP)
- Registered Nurses (RN)
- Psychosocial (MS, MA)
- Paramedics (PARA)
Other requirements:
- Commitment to our mission statement
- Previous developing nations experience
- Physically fit (accustomed to hiking and lifting, extreme conditions)
- Valid passport, current medical license/certification
- Current doctor-recommended immunizations (anything specific to add?)
- Able to serve at least 4 weeks
Highest priority is given to those who have:
- The ability to leave on short notice
- Prior experience with Medical Teams International or emergency relief interventions
- ER, trauma, family and general practice, pediatrics, ICU or CCU experience
In most cases, Medical Teams International covers the trip expenses for disaster teams.
